Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with a move for Wissam Ben Yedder. As reported by L’Equipe earlier this week and subsequently reported by The Sun, Spurs are one of several teams keen on the player who carries a £40 million price-tag after an impressive 2019-20 season.

Ben Yedder has scored 19 goals in 31 games for Monaco this season and that has clearly attracted the interest of a whole host of clubs.

As for Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho, it is likely Ben Yedder will have caught his eye long ago.

The Frenchman once dealt out one of Mourinho’s lowest moments as Manchester United manager. With the score 0-0 on aggregate in the Champions League round of 16-second leg at Old Trafford in March 2018, Ben Yedder came on as a substitute for the Spanish side. He went on to score two quickfire goals which, despite Romelu Lukaku’s consolation, saw Sevilla dump Mourinho’s United out of the competition.

It was a huge deal for Ben Yedder. As quoted by Goal after the game, he said it was the ‘happiest day’ of his life.

“I’m happy, very, very happy. It’s a beautiful evening. It’s a match that we won’t forget in a long time. It’s the happiest day of my life.

“I don’t know how to describe my emotion. It’s a child’s dream to win against big players, big teams like Manchester United. There is a lot of emotion.”

After the game, as reported by FourFourTwo, Mourinho was in a typically spiky mood with the media and made it clear several Sevilla players could make it into his United team. Ben Yedder, presumably, was one of those names.

“Do you think they didn’t have any players who could play direct in my team? I cannot name them. If I name them their agents will jump with happiness and they will say: ‘Tag, tag, price’, this and that. In Sevilla, there are many players who would play in my team.”

So understandably, it would be no surprise if Mourinho was now keen on bringing the Frenchman to Tottenham Hotspur.
