Antonio Conte has given his first words to Tottenham Hotspur’s site after Spurs confirmed his arrival, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement.

Conte, 52, is back in football after leaving Inter Milan in the summer. Spurs obviously tried to hire Conte, but ended up getting Nuno – who failed.

Nuno suffered five defeats in his opening 10 Premier League matches. It has seen Fabio Paratici move to form a reunion, working with him at Juventus.

Conte has now been announced as Tottenham’s new manager, joining the club on an 18-month deal. He speaks of his delight at joining Spurs.

Interestingly, Conte also discusses the move in the summer – stating that he did not join as he was still emotionally attached to Inter Milan.

“I am extremely happy to return to coaching, and to do so at a Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again,” Conte said.

“Tottenham has state-of-the-art facilities and one of the best stadiums in the world. Last summer our union did not happen.

“My relationship with Inter was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season, so I felt that it wasn’t yet the right time.

“But the contagious enthusiasm and determination of Daniel Levy in wanting to entrust me with this task had already hit the mark.”

Conte discusses summer: Tottenham finally pull off major coup

Firstly, bringing in Conte is a wonderful bit of business from Daniel Levy. Conte awaits a working Visa, before he can take training at Tottenham.

Nuno Espirito Santo leaving, to be replaced by Conte, is quite evidently an enormous upgrade. Can he get Spurs going? Will he get Spurs going?

He can. But if he is to do so, he needs to sort out issues surrounding Harry Kane and under-performers such as Dele Alli and Steven Bergwijn.

It is a massive coup for Spurs, one that should fill the club with price and fans with excitement. Conte could take charge against Vitesse on Thursday.
