Antonio Conte says he liked how Tottenham's Richarlison and Kulusevski performed last night
Spurs, once again, were really poor. They deserved nothing from the game last night and if anything, they’ve to thank Fraser Forster for keeping the score down to just two.
Antonio Conte says he liked how Tottenham’s Richarlison and Kulusevski performed last night
Tottenham have made a terrible habit of starting games poorly. It’s almost like they wait for the opponent to score before turning up, and that’s not sustainable at all.
For once, Spurs did not concede in the first half last night. Fraser Forster pulled off a really good save to deny Jesse Lingard, and although the performance from Conte’s lads was awful, they were still very much in the game at the break.
However, an excellent strike from Renan Lodi followed by a smart Lingard header in the second half killed the tie.
Conte, unsurprisingly, was not happy with the result, but he believes the return of Kulusevski and Richarlison is a big positive for Tottenham ahead of their Premier League clash against Leeds this weekend.
The Italian said, as per Football London: “We faced a really bad situation with injuries and arrived at the end in real difficulty. Now we try to rest, to recover injury.
“Good news, I liked the way Richarlison came in and the effort he made showed he has recovered. The same for Deki and I hope to have them start on Saturday. To pick them in the starting XI would be great for us because it is an important game on Saturday.”
Richarlison and Kulusevski both being fit is a humongous boost for Tottenham.
Earlier in the season, it was always one or the other for Conte, but with Son Heung-min now injured and definitely out of the game against Leeds, both Richarlison and Kulusevski could start either side of Harry Kane.
That would make Spurs a very dangerous side, especially against a team like Leeds, who will leave spaces open for Tottenham to hit them on the counter-attack.
As bad as the result was last night, Conte’s right, having Kulusevski and Richarlison now ready to start this weekend’s game is amazing news for Tottenham.
