Antonio Conte says Bryan Gil could play for Tottenham on Tuesday

Antonio Conte has said that he trusts Bryan Gil and suggested that the Tottenham Hotspur winger could play against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Tuesday – in comments reported by Football London.

It has been a frustrating start to the season for the Spaniard. He returned to the fold after an impressive loan spell with Valencia.

Many would have expected Gil to go out again this year. And Conte has now confirmed that Spurs did indeed want to send the 21-year-old back to the Mestalla.

Gil is yet to feature in any competition so far this term. And it seemed ominous that he remained on the bench during the North London derby despite being the most attacking player available to Conte.

But the Italian has issued an encouraging update when asked if Gil could feature in Europe this week.

“Tomorrow he is the first option for our attack. Kulusevski is out. Moura is out. Moura will be out for a long time. It was the same for Kulusevski,” he said, as reported by Football London.

“We are talking about a young player a good prospect. We wanted to send him on loan to Valencia but the situation has changed. I trust in him, he is working very well. If we need the possibility to give him time, I trust him. He could play.”

Obviously, some may have their doubts about Conte’s comments. If he trusted him, surely he would have given him a chance against Arsenal at the weekend.

He may soon get a golden opportunity with both Lucas Moura and Dejan Kulusevski out. Tottenham have gone from having real depth up front to really struggling if Conte is going to continue with three in attack for the time-being.

There have been questions about Gil’s physicality and whether he would be able to hold his own in the Premier League. But clearly, he is a very talented player with a very bright future ahead.

Giving him a chance is not like turning to a 17-year-old with no first-team experience whatsoever. Gil is a Spain international with over 60 La Liga appearances under his belt.

Now is the time to give him the chance to show how much his game has improved over the last year.
