He previously called him ‘devastating’ and Conte must crack the Kane conundrum at Tottenham

Antonio Conte is set to become the new Tottenham manager and his first conundrum is staring him straight in the face.

The Italian is set to replace Nuno Espirito Santo. He was sacked yesterday after just four months in charge, with Saturday’s defeat to Manchester United the final straw.

An ultra-defensive style saw the Tottenham hierarchy quickly grow disgruntled. The Portuguese boss was handed his papers after just 17 games in the Spurs dugout.

Now the baton is passed to Conte and his first big remit doesn’t take much working out.

Harry Kane is Tottenham and England’s main talisman. This season, however, he has found the net just once in the Premier League.

As a result, it’s pretty obvious where Conte has to start work in his new job.

Kane is one of the most prolific strikers the country has ever seen. He is likely to smash Wayne Rooney’s record for England and he could break the Tottenham record too.

Even Alan Shearer might be starting to sweat a bit. Kane is 93 goals away from reaching the magic 260 that he scored during his career.

In the here and now though, Conte has a job on his hands when it comes to helping Kane rediscover his best form.

Kane form is a sizeable conundrum for Conte

Plenty have said that Kane’s head has been turned. Interest from Manchester City in the summer has basically seen him become desperate for a move away from the club.

In a sense, we will now start to see whether such a sentiment is true. Conte is ambitious and he won’t have come to Tottenham in the mood to mess about.

He does rate Kane too. The serial title-winning manager previously called him ‘devastating’ and he could be just the man to convince Kane that trophies can be won at Tottenham.

With a shortage of strikers at the club, Conte needs Kane firing. He has to get the striker on the same page and given his past glories, the 28-year-old might be willing to listen.

An attacking style should suit Kane and with that in mind, if Conte can get the England captain firing again, Tottenham should fly up the Premier League.
