Antonio Conte makes Fraser Forster claim following Tottenham move
Antonio Conte has suggested that he has been impressed by Fraser Forster and insisted to Tottenham Hotspur’s YouTube channel that Spurs have made the best choice bringing the England international in as Hugo Lloris’ understudy.
Forster was the first signing unveiled by Tottenham at the start of this pivotal summer. He arrived off the back of a lengthy spell with Southampton.
The 34-year-old showed signs of his old form for the Saints last season. So it seems to have been a shrewd move to bring him in as Pierluigi Gollini’s replacement.
Gollini did not get the chance to really impress during his loan spell. And with that, Tottenham faced a tricky task trying to find someone to provide cover and some competition for Lloris.
But Conte believes that Tottenham could have hardly done better when it came to signing a backup goalkeeper this summer.
“Fraser I knew him when he played with Celtic and we played against them in the Champions League. Celtic vs Juventus,” he told Tottenham’s YouTube channel.
“I was impressed because he’s a really good keeper and a really good guy. I have seen this week he has come in very well into the dressing room and for the second goalkeeper, it is a particular role and you need to have a second keeper who is very positive.
“I think we have made the best choice for us.”
Conte lauds Tottenham signing Fraser Forster
Forster definitely ticks a lot of boxes for Spurs. His stock fell a few years ago. But he now looks to be in a much better place, with his form picking up following a loan move to Celtic.
On his day, he is capable of colossal performances. The League Cup final during his loan spell at Parkhead will be forever remembered for his heroics inside Hampden Park.
And with that, he could be perfect for Tottenham. When Lloris is absent, Spurs will need someone capable of filling the void he leaves behind.
Lloris certainly has the upper hand when it comes to consistency over a long time and not making errors. But Forster, when he is at his very best, is someone who has the potential to match him when called upon.
