Antonio Conte has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy supported him ‘really well’ during a difficult time at Spurs.
Conte’s final season in charge at Tottenham was a difficult campaign on and off the pitch for the Italian.
After delivering Champions League football in his first season in charge, Conte’s Spurs struggled to produce consistent displays during the 2022-23 campaign.
The Italian eventually parted ways with Tottenham in March 2023 following his post-match rant after Spurs threw away a 3-1 lead at Southampton.
Despite the obvious issues on the pitch, it’s fair to say that it was a tough season for Conte on a personal level too.
He lost three close friends in quick succession, including former Tottenham fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone.

Conte then required emergency gallbladder surgery which saw him miss a run of key fixtures for Tottenham, with assistant Cristian Stellini taking charge in his absence.
Now, Conte has been speaking to The Telegraph and opened up on a difficult time towards the end of his Spurs tenure.
Conte makes claim about Spurs chairman Daniel Levy
Conte admitted that he was keen to return to Spurs as quickly as possible. But Spurs chairman Daniel Levy urged him to stay in Italy to make a full recovery.
“It was an important period with the Champions League, the FA Cup and with the league,” he said.
“I preferred to come back quickly, but then I understood it was really soon. It was Daniel Levy who pushed me to go home and recover again.
“After the AC Milan game, when we lost 1-0 in the San Siro, he told me to stay in Italy to recover well because he didn’t like the way I looked and Tottenham’s doctors didn’t want me to take the risk. The club supported me really well.”

Despite Conte’s infamous rant just days before he left Tottenham, there are clearly no hard feelings between Spurs and the Italian.
Ultimately, Conte just wasn’t the right fit for Spurs and off-field issues certainly impacted his final few months at the club.
