Antonio Conte delivers triple Tottenham injury blow, says one has a ‘serious’ problem

Antonio Conte has told Football London that Gio Lo Celso, Cristian Romero and Dane Scarlett all have injuries – ahead of Tottenham against Mura.

Conte is preparing his Tottenham side for his fourth match in charge. A win is needed to secure a place in the knockout stages of the Conference League.

Ryan Sessegnon is back fit, also staging a press conference at Hotspur Way on Wednesday morning. But Conte gave updates on three that are missing.

Argentine duo Romero and Lo Celso are both on the treatment table. Conte said last week Lo Celso returned from international duty in poor state.

Conte stated he will be missing on Thursday, while also giving more in-depth updates on striker Scarlett – and a “serious” issue for Romero.

“Scarlett is not available. During the international break he had a problem in his ankle and is not available. He’s injured, like Romero and Lo Celso.”

On Romero, Conte said: “We are waiting for another scan. His injury is a bit serious, we have to wait. It is more serious than Lo Celso and Scarlett.”

Triple Tottenham blow: Romero loss is a big hit for Conte

Conte will have been hoping to use the Conference League to instill some confidence in a three-man defence of Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies.

The trio started at Vitesse and Everton, but Romero was replaced by Japhet Tanganga against Leeds. Tanganga was subbed for Davinson Sanchez.

Conte rates Romero and is probably the first-choice centre-back in his starting XI. To lose the summer signing is a big blow for Spurs and Conte.

Instead, they will have to bring in Tanganga – who is yet to prove himself to Conte or Sanchez, who has an error in him.

Sanchez was excellent on Sunday when coming on for Tanganga – and that might just give the Colombian the nod ahead of Spurs product Tanganga.
