Antonio and Wilson back Tottenham star Son for Player of the Season

Michail Antonio has told The Footballer’s Football Podcast that it is actually frightening how good Son Heung-min is, while both he and Callum Wilson insisted that the Tottenham Hotspur star is their Player of the Season in the Premier League.

Son is rightfully receiving all sorts of plaudits right now. He ended the campaign in amazing form to help Spurs book their ticket to next year’s Champions League.

But of course, there was another reason for Son to celebrate on the final day. His two goals at Norwich ensured that he finished the campaign as the joint top goalscorer alongside Mohamed Salah.

Son finished the season with 12 goals in his final 10 appearances. And with that, some will suggest that he deserves to be in the conversation for the player of the season.

‘Had an outstanding season’

Certainly, both Wilson and Antonio not only think he should be in the conversation. But they both suggested that they would pick Son as the best in the Premier League this past year.

“It’s probably been Son at Tottenham for me. He’s ended up on 22, 23 goals and didn’t score a penalty within that. And a lot of goals were left foot, great finishes. He was playing in a team that struggled at first and then picked themselves up, they changed their manager,” Wilson told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

“I just feel they’re not in that Liverpool, City title race but he’s still had an outstanding season and I just feel for me he was Player of the Season.”

“I agree with him to be fair. I’ve been saying this for the last couple of the years that Son is the best player in the Premier League. If he was at one of the top two teams I couldn’t even tell how many goals he’d probably get,” Antonio added.

“He’s done it for the last two or three years, and I played against him and the things that he’s done in games, like running past four or five men and finishing. It’s actually frightening how good he is.”

Frightening Son is Player of the Season

It is definitely impossible to argue with anyone who backs Son to be player of the season. The South Korean has established himself as a world-class forward in the last few years.

And at 29, he appears to only be getting better. He comfortably achieved his best ever tally for goals in the top-flight this past season, having managed that same feat the year before.

It is seriously exciting to think about the level he could reach in the next few years. With Antonio Conte at the helm and Tottenham flying, there is no reason to think Son will not continue to improve.
