In the summer, Mauricio Pochettino was seemingly ready to try and finally get his hands on Anthony Martial. The French attacker’s strained relationship with Jose Mourinho appeared to be pushing him toward the exit door and Spurs were said to be ready to snap him up.
However, despite Mourinho reportedly happy to see him go and Martial’s own agent suggesting he would leave, no deal happened.
Tottenham, as reported by the Daily Mail, were never ready to pay the £80 million asking price that United had slapped on the Frenchman.
At the start of the campaign, it did not appear to be an issue. Martial looked disinterested and unmotivated. Tottenham, it seemed, were better off without.

However, his recent form will have Tottenham fans wondering, what if?
Martial bagged two goals for United yesterday in their 2-2 draw with Chelsea. The 22-year-old has started the Red Devils last three games and also scored v Newcastle United, taking his tally to three in three.
Tottenham still lack appropriate support for striker Harry Kane and Martial could have been the perfect option. His ability from the left-wing would have made him a double threat option.
If he continues this form, Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy could live to regret not emptying their wallets for his services.
