Newcastle United banished their St. James’ Park woes following their last-gasp defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League last week, with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The Magpies have made a solid defensive start to the Premier League campaign, but issues going forward have somewhat stunted their league position for the time being.
That was changed in the win over Ange Postecoglou’s men, with two second-half goals being enough to lift them to 11th in the Premier League table.
A 4-0 Champions League win in midweek saw Newcastle’s attacking force on fire, with Anthony Gordon being on top form by scoring twice from the spot.
However, the Magpies star may have been looking enviously at what happened from 12 yards on Sunday, once he’d been replaced by Harvey Barnes late on – despite his brace in Europe.

Nick Woltemade scored an incredible penalty for Newcastle United vs Nottingham Forest
Anthony Gordon scored either side of half-time in midweek’s win over Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League, with both being penalties to register a first win of the continental campaign.
They weren’t bad penalties, either, beating Kjell Scherpen all ends up to mark his second and third goals of the season.
However, with Gordon being substituted during Newcastle’s win over Forest, it was former Magpies star Elliot Anderson who gave the Tyneside club the chance to double their lead after a foul on Bruno Guimaraes.
Gordon naturally would have been the man to step up after his continental heroics, but after being substituted 15 minutes prior, instead it was striker Nick Woltemade who calmed himself down before dispatching superbly.
And the ex-Stuttgart forward produced one of the best penalties of the season so far to score his fourth Newcastle goal in just seven games, lashing the ball into the top left corner beyond Matz Sels.
That could spring bad news for Gordon when it comes to being one of the star men in the North East.

Nick Woltemade’s Newcastle form means he could become first-choice penalty taker
Woltemade has had a solid start to life in Newcastle and with the German clearly being Eddie Howe’s first-choice talisman, he’ll want to take every chance he can get to get himself on the scoresheet.
A penalty as good as the one that he produced is clearly going to cast doubt upon Howe’s mind as to who should be his first-choice taker.
If Woltemade does step up to the plate should a penalty be awarded when Gordon is on the field, then the stunning penalty against Forest will prove to be an incident that Gordon hates.
Scoring two penalties in one game only to be taken off them is unfortunate, but when a player strikes a penalty in the way Woltemade did, there can be no real complaints.
