Anthony Gordon has told The Liverpool Echo that Everton team-mate Seamus Coleman has helped him with his confidence issues.
Gordon revealed that he had a period of low confidence last season. The 18-year-old was not hitting his best form and his game was suffering as a result. But when he went to train with the first-team, Coleman boosted his morale.
Coleman, who is the Everton captain, would remind Gordon of how good he actually is. Those compliments have helped Gordon play a more expressive style of football and this is reflected in his U23 performances this season.
Gordon on Coleman

Gordon told The Liverpool Echo: “I suffered with a lack of confidence last year but Seamus is a player will tell you how good you actually are, so for someone like him to tell me how good he thinks I am, is massive and has given me loads more confidence.”
The exciting youngster also added that Leighton Baines has aided his development with advice. Gordon added (via The Liverpool Echo): “Baines, he’s played with the likes of Pienaar and Osman, so he gives me advice on what they used to do. Even the smallest things, little touches, how to manipulate defenders and that helps me massively.”
TBR’s view
Coleman’s role at Everton is more than just on the field. He is a level-headed, experienced pro whose advice will be invaluable for the youngsters. Gordon’s interview reflects just how important Coleman is for the Toffees.
As for Gordon, he is knocking on the first-team door. He has spoken about training with Marco Silva and it is only a matter of time before he gets a promotion – if he keeps this form up.
