Anthony Elanga was at the heart of a very professional Newcastle United performance away to Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side were 4-0 winners away in Belgium, and the display was a great reaction to losing late on against Arsenal in the Premier League.
For the game, Howe did make changes, one being Anthony Elanga’s return to the starting XI.
Elanga was excellent against Barcelona on matchday one of the competition, and the Swede starred alongside both Anthony Gordon and Nick Woltemade in attack on this occasion too.
And as well as two superbly taken penalties by Gordon, Newcastle fans will have been delighted to see Woltemade open his account for the club in the Champions League.
Anthony Elanga thinks Nick Woltemade will score a lot of goals for Newcastle
In recent weeks, there’s been a lot of talk about Newcastle overspending on Woltemade – Howe’s side were in a difficult spot and needed to execute a deal.
But either way, Woltemade keeps scoring for Newcastle, and the 23-year-old now has three goals in six games.
Woltemade never played in Europe’s top competition with Stuttgart, but he looked like a natural up top in Belgium.

That being said, Woltemade took to Instagram after the game to celebrate the win and his first goal in the Champions League.
Woltemade shared four photos alongside a caption of: “1st win, 1st goal. Hungry for more.”
Among the replies, Elanga was pretty clear in his prediction that there were many more goals to come.
Elanga wrote: “More more more to come.”
In addition, Bruno Guimaraes wrote, “What a player”, and Gordon left applauding emoticons too.
Eddie Howe comments on Nick Woltemade asking to take penalties
As mentioned, Gordon scored two penalties in Newcastle’s 4-0 win against USG.
And after full-time, Howe was quizzed about Woltemade visibly asking Gordon to take both penalties.
Fortunately for Howe, he could reflect on the situation in a positive light
Howe said: “I love it! The best strikers I’ve worked with want to score. Even if there is a directive, they don’t care! They want to score. They want that responsibility. I’ve got no issue with that at all.
“But I think Anthony’s been practising them a lot. He’s been working very hard on his routine.
“You can see that he’s very focused. I was really pleased with how he took the two penalties.
“When you see someone as dedicated as he’s been towards that, I had no hesitation in giving him that role.”
