Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou believes Rodrigo Bentancur will become a significant player for the club once he returns to full fitness.
All eyes will be on Spurs’ midfield over the next few weeks. Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma will not be available, while there are rumours Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could leave. Bentancur will become more important than ever now, and Postecoglou can’t wait for him to be 100 per cent fit again.

Ange Postecoglou says Rodrigo Bentancur will be a significant contributor to Tottenham soon
Rodrigo Bentancur had an awful 2023 at Tottenham, didn’t he?
The Uruguay international damaged his ACL in February last year and had to undergo surgery. He missed the remainder of last season and only returned to action at the end of October.
Bentancur made four consecutive Premier League appearances for Spurs, accumulating 89 minutes of game time. He even went away on international duty with Uruguay.
Just when it looked like the £75,000-a-week (Spotrac) midfielder was coming back to his best, Bentancur sadly suffered another injury, and it was initially expected that he would be out till February.
However, he returned to action well ahead of schedule and played 58 minutes against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve. He came out of the game unscathed, and Ange Postecoglou has now claimed that he will be a big player for Tottenham again as soon as he’s 100 per cent fit.
The Spurs boss said, as per Football London: “He was good. Obviously, he is feeling the effects of the game, but not anything injury-related, which was good. It was good to get him out there and he felt good being out there.
“Like a lot of the injured lads, they want to help out and he thought he had done the hard bit getting back the first time and then he had another setback. I don’t think he fancied another really long rehab regime again. He was pretty keen to get back involved and I was happy to give him the minutes I did.
“You can see his quality straight away, he is a very, very good footballer and when he is back up to speed from a physical perspective, I think he is going to be a significant contributor for us.”

Bentancur can take Tottenham to the next level
Tottenham’s big problems under Antonio Conte last season started after Rodrigo Bentancur got injured.
Spurs managed just six wins from that point until the end of the campaign in the Premier League. That shows just how important a player the Uruguayan is for them.
The 26-year-old is back now, but he’s still not in his best possible shape. It will take a few games before he reaches his highest level, and that’s when we’ll see the real him.
Once Bentancur is fully fit, we really think his quality will help take Tottenham to a whole new level.
They will have more control in midfield and the balance between their attack and defence will be much higher than it currently is, which would make them much harder to beat.
