Ange Postecoglou says two Tottenham players were amazing vs Man United yesterday

Ange Postecoglou had lauded Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven after their return to the Tottenham Hotspur side on Sunday.

Tottenham welcomed their defensive duo back as the pair played alongside each other for the first time since early November.

Of course, Micky van de Ven has been ruled out with a hamstring injury while Cristian Romero was suspended for three games following his red card against Chelsea.

The Argentine then also picked up a hamstring issue in the 2-1 win over Everton last month. But Romero returned ahead of schedule yesterday to help Tottenham to a 2-2 draw at Manchester United.

It’s fair to say that the Argentine and Van de Ven looked rusty in the first half, with Romero being criticised for his defending for United’s opener.

The duo improved massively in the second half as they got back up to the pace of the game following spells on the sidelines. And Ange Postecoglou was certainly impressed with his centre-back pairing.

Postecoglou amazed by Romero and Van de Ven

Speaking to Spurs Play after his side’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, Postecoglou was asked about Van de Ven’s fitness after he was forced off with cramp in the 89th minute.

“Yeah, cramp,” Postecoglou said. “He [Van de Ven] gave everything. He and Romero.

“To come in with literally a week’s training and perform like that here, I can’t speak highly enough of them.”

It was noticeable that Van de Ven hadn’t played a single minute of first-team football since early November in the first half. But the Dutchman grew into the game and made a couple of vital challenges in the second half.

Romero also excelled in the second period and produced a midfield-splitting pass to set Oliver Skipp away shortly before Bentancur’s leveller.

It’s a huge boost for Postecoglou to have the duo back and after yesterday’s draw, Spurs are yet to lose a Premier League game when the duo have started alongside each other.
