Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action on Saturday as they take on Newcastle United at 12:30pm.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs will face Eddie Howe’s Magpies in the day’s early kick-off at St James’ Park.

Tottenham have been in good form following the international break, picking up seven points from their last three games.

Spurs’ decent results, combined with Aston Villa getting just four points from their last three matches, have seen Postecoglou’s side go fourth.

With the run-in in full swing, Tottenham are in a great position to achieve Champions League qualification and there’s certainly a lot to smile about at N17.

Postecoglou has done a great job with tactics and man-management, not to mention the transfer market.

Ahead of the Newcastle game, the Tottenham boss spoke highly about one of the players he has helped bring the best out of, namely Pedro Porro.

A year ago, in Spurs’ traumatic 6-1 loss at Newcastle, the 24-year-old played on the right flank of defence for the first time, but it didn’t work out.

Now, Porro has made the right-back position his own, with Postecoglou believing the Spaniard can play in that position.

What has Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou said about Pedro Porro?

Asked by football.london whether he had any doubts about Porro’s suitability at right-back, Postecoglou replied: “No, I didn’t. After working with him, obviously during the pre-season with him and Eme, and obviously all our full-backs.

“We play that role a little bit differently, so there’s always some different characteristic you look for. With the lads we have here, I thought it was the one area of the pitch we had some really good reinforcements in.

“I really enjoyed working with Pedro right from the start. He’s got great energy, he’s really good technically.

“He’s really eager to learn, he’s done a lot of work on his defensive side with Wellsy (Matt Wells) and the defensive unit as a group. I think he’s benefitted from that and grown into it.

“I still think there’s a lot more growth in him because he’s tackling the defensive side of his job, which is the area people obviously had some scepticism around.

“When you play as a wing-back, you don’t need to defend particularly in a one-on-one situation, but he’s been outstanding this year at dealing with some really good wingers in this league and rarely has he been left short.

“So I think there’s a lot more in him and I’m really pleased that he’s embraced the way we play our football.”

Porro is one of many players who has come in leaps and bounds under Postecoglou. He’s now indispensable to the Spurs team and long may it continue.
