Ange Postecoglou says Spurs player with just 3 starts this season has been superb in training

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has praised Giovani Lo Celso for how he has been doing in Spurs games and in training this season.

The Tottenham boss says the Argentina international has been good over the past months in terms of his attitude at Hotspur Way as well as in matches.

Lo Celso is getting regular starts (and goals) at present, which bodes well for his future at Tottenham after a number of years of uncertainty.

He has been at Tottenham since 2019, when he joined on an initial loan deal, but he has never quite managed to establish himself at Spurs thus far.

Lo Celso did well in pre-season, scoring two goals in three friendlies and doing enough to convince Postecoglou to keep him at Tottenham.

Sadly, the 27-year-old picked up an injury in the Carabao Cup loss to Fulham, which halted his momentum, but he has since played in Spurs’ last three games, starting and scoring the last two.

Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso ‘definitely a talented player’

Lo Celso looks likely to make his third start of the season when Spurs host West Ham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening.

“The only thing with Gio,” Postecoglou began, in conversation with football.london.

“I just wanted to make sure, not just him but all those guys who were on the periphery and uncertain about their future, was that I wasn’t going to make any decision until they had a real good opportunity to show me what they could do.

“I sensed with him that that’s all he wanted and he was prepared to take whatever fallout there was from that, but he wanted a decent shot at it.

“He was good through pre-season and then the Fulham game was the second game of the year where he picked up the injury that set him back.

“But he’s been good, not just in the last two games, but for the last month for us in terms of training and what he’s been delivering.

“Hopefully that gives him the confidence because he’s definitely a talented player. You see how important he is to the Argentina national team.”

It’s good to hear that Lo Celso is impressing Postecoglou. And if any Spurs manager can get him back on track, it’s Postecoglou.

For instance, Yves Bissouma struggled under Antonio Conte, but now he’s back to his best and shining for Spurs. That seems to be the road that Lo Celso is now on too.
