Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has praised Radu Dragusin ahead of his expected start for Spurs on Saturday evening.

The Tottenham boss, speaking to the Evening Standard on Friday, says he is a big fan of the 22-year-old’s career trajectory.

Postecoglou also said he likes how eager Dragusin was to join Tottenham. He famously rejected Bayern Munich to link up with the Lilywhites.

Earlier on Friday, the Spurs boss confirmed that the Romania international would be coming in for Micky van de Ven, who’s unavailable to face Fulham.

Tottenham lost the Dutchman to injury against Aston Villa last time out, and he’ll now sit out the Cottagers game.

Dragusin, who joined Spurs from Genoa in January, replaced the summer arrival in the 49th minute of the 4-0 win in Birmingham.

Radu Dragusin had ‘strong desire’ to join Tottenham

Postecoglou has so far been impressed with Dragusin, and explained why he was so eager to bring him to Tottenham in January.

“In terms of profile, he’s a young man that’s already played significant minutes, which helps us when we’re recruiting”, he said.

“We’re a squad that needs to develop, and we’re looking for that younger demographic. But at the same time you’re looking for guys that have played.

“I’ve liked his trajectory. He’s played at clubs where he’s had to fight for everything. In Serie A you get tested every week.”

Postecoglou went on to say: “He really wanted to come here, and I don’t disregard that.

“When players have a strong desire to come here, they have obviously thought carefully about it and have evidence that it’s right for them.

“You don’t need much more evidence that you can’t do with just than two centre-backs, no matter how good they are. We’ve been challenged in that space.”

It’ll be good to see how the ‘outstanding‘ Dragusin fares after being given time to acclimatise at Tottenham and effectively being soft-launched at N17.

Spurs famously beat Bayern Munich and Napoli to Dragusin’s signature. It just goes to show how strong their pull has become, and hopefully there’ll be much more to come.
