Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has praised Son Heung-min for how he’s been developing as a centre-forward.
The Spurs manager, speaking to football.london ahead of the Premier League meeting with West Ham, says Son is getting better in the role with each passing game.
Son has been leading the line for Tottenham since September. He began the season on the left side of attack but Postecoglou then opted to move him to the centre.
The 31-year-old has registered an impressive nine goals and two assists from 14 Premier League outings this season. Of those appearances, 11 have come at centre-forward.

Son’s switch to centre-forward has ensured that Tottenham haven’t missed Harry Kane as much as people thought would’ve been the case.
The £22million man has also shown plenty of his old team-mate’s ability to drop deep and link up the play with neat passing to the flanks.
‘He has it in him’
“I think he has it in him anyway,” Postecoglou said to football.london on the subject of Son impressing in that capacity this season.
“I’ve watched him a lot for Korea and he tends to play in a central role for them. I think he has that technical ability.
“It’s different in the Premier League and I think with every game he’s getting a better understanding of how to be involved in the link-up play and not just the final third stuff.
“You’re right, I think it helped us last week especially. His link-up play helped us to get out of pressure.
“Having him drop deep and receive it is really useful and adds another bow to what we’re doing, but all the players are in that phase of hopefully understanding a little bit more about what they can do and bringing a little bit more of themselves because a lot of the stuff is very prescriptive and we want them to follow direction.
“That can sometimes be stifling but you have to go through that process to free them up, and that front third is still the area where I think we’re just really at the infancy of. I see so much growth for us in that area.”
Son Heung-min stepping up for Tottenham as always
Son is not only leading Tottenham well as their captain, but he’s also getting goals and assists on board and bringing midfield and attack together. And obviously he remains as popular as ever in the Spurs dressing room and among the fans.
The South Korea international’s efforts have been crucial in helping Tottenham go top of the Premier League table earlier on this season, and record some superb results such as the draw with Manchester City.
Obviously we’re still at the start of Postecoglou’s tenure, and it’ll likely take another two or three transfer windows before he can build an amazing team with strength in depth and clear out the deadwood. But so far so good.
As for Son, surely he’s due a statue outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.
