Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has praised Son Heung-min ahead of Spurs’ FA Cup third-round meeting with Burnley on Friday.

The Tottenham boss says his captain is worthy of being in the team of the season so far and has been “probably the most significant contributor” for Spurs.

Postecoglou will be without Son‘s services for a number of weeks, potentially even until mid-February, due to his participation at the Asian Cup.

The Tottenham and South Korea star will represent his nation at the tournament, which takes place in Qatar between 12 January and 10 February.

Tottenham could potentially be without Son for five Tottenham games between now and the day of the Asian Cup final, and Postecoglou acknowledges Son’s absence is a “big loss”.

“Sonny, if you name a team of the year of the moment he’d be in it, he’s been a hell of a player for us,” Postecoglou told the Spurs media team in a video posted on YouTube.

“It’s a big loss for us. We are going to have to raise everyone’s levels to cover the absence of another significant contributor, probably the most significant contributor for us.”

Tottenham have struck gold with Son Heung-min

Son is not only leading Tottenham well as their captain, but he’s also getting goals and assists on board and bringing midfield and attack together. And obviously he remains as popular as ever in the Spurs dressing room and among the fans.

Tottenham well and truly struck gold when they signed Son for a mere £22million back in 2015. The £190,000-a-week ace (Spotrac) has already become a legend for both Spurs and for South Korea.

While it’s a shame that Tottenham will be without him for several weeks, let’s hope he does well with his nation and potentially leads them to glory in Qatar.
