Ange Postecoglou ‘impressed’ by Spurs player who has made just two starts this season

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been “pretty impressed” by Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this season.

This is according to Dean Jones, who wrote on GiveMeSport about how the Tottenham player seems to have adapted well to Postecoglou’s methods.

Jones also believes that the Argentina midfielder now has the best chance of breaking back into the Spurs starting XI amid their injury issues.

Lo Celso has been at Tottenham since 2019, when he joined on an initial loan deal, but he has never quite managed to establish himself at Spurs thus far.

It looked as though this would change this term after he did well in pre-season scoring two goals in three friendlies and doing enough to convince Ange Postecoglou to keep him.

Sadly, the 27-year-old picked up an injury in the Carabao Cup loss to Fulham, which cruelly halted his momentum towards establishing himself in the Spurs first team.

Lo Celso has since returned, making his first Premier League start of the season – and second in all competitions – in the loss to Aston Villa last weekend.

Giovani Lo Celso impresses Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou

Jones, speaking ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Manchester City, says he has been informed that Postecoglou appears impressed with how the Argentine has adapted to the side.

“If there would be a way back for Lo Celso, it would be now because of the squad depth being tested,” he wrote.

“He and (Bryan) Gil would get opportunities to show they could come into this side and make an impact.

“Again, Postecoglou is looking for characters to help show they can manage this period that Tottenham have got to wade their way through.

“They’ve got a really tough time coming up now. We’re already looking at a team that has suffered three defeats.

“You’re looking at a fixture at the weekend that will probably lead to four defeats in a row.

“That’s tough, but Tottenham’s performance level hasn’t dipped off that far.

“From what I’m told, I think that Postecoglou has been pretty impressed by Lo Celso and how he’s adapted.”

It’s good to hear that Lo Celso is impressing Postecoglou. And if any Spurs manager can get him back on track, it’s Postecoglou.

For instance, Yves Bissouma struggled under Antonio Conte, but now he’s back to his best and shining for Spurs. Hopefully that’ll be the case with Lo Celso too.
