Journalist Alasdair Gold has reported on social media that Djed Spence will be training with Tottenham Hotspur’s under-21s until he secures a move away from the club this month.

Djed Spence is back with Spurs after seeing his loan move cut short. But it appears that he is unlikely to find himself in Ange Postecoglou’s plans anytime soon.

The 23-year-old got the green light to leave once again in the summer, with Postecoglou instead opting for Pedro Porro and Emerson Royal as his options at right-back this season.

And a move to Leeds United appeared to have the potential to be inspired. It was Spence’s form in the Championship with Nottingham Forest which persuaded Tottenham to pay £20 million to sign him in 2022.

Unfortunately, Spence saw his loan at Elland Road terminated just as it seemed that he was starting to get going – having missed much of the early months of the season due to injury.

While Tottenham were surprised to see Spence’s loan terminated, they quickly decided that they were keen to sell the youngster this month.

And it seems that Tottenham are not leaving the pathway open for Spence to prove himself to Postecoglou. Alasdair Gold has shared on Instagram that the defender will train with the under-21s while he waits to secure another move away this month.

Right-back may be approaching his final chance at Spurs

Tottenham must now be seriously concerned about their chances of recouping what they paid for Spence.

There was always a chance that he was going to need time. But it is ominous that Postecoglou did not find a place for him at a time when he put his full faith in the likes of Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr. And a loan spell in the Championship appeared to be the perfect opportunity for Spence to prove a point.

Perhaps he could still do that depending on where he now ends up. But it seems that he now has a mountain to climb to win over his doubters at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
