Following the arrivals of Naby Keita and Fabinho to Liverpool this summer, Adam Lallana could well have been justified to be wondering whether his future lied at the club.
Since his return to injury though, he has gone almost straight back into the first team set-up, starting against Huddersfield and being involved in almost every game since being fully fit.
That has led to comments from former Chelsea defender Andy Townsend, who believes that he will always have a role at Anfield.
“He’ll have seen a lot of players coming in and I’m sure he’d have had his moments where he’s thinking to himself, ‘I’m not going to get back into this team,’ ” Townsend told the Premier League.

“But he’s kept plugging away. He’s a very talented, very clever, and a very different type of midfield player to what Liverpool have got, and maybe that’s why he’ll always get a game.”
Townsend is not wrong in his assessment either. Particularly in the absence of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Liverpool do not possess anyone who can provide such a natural attacking threat in the front of a three man midfield.
His work rate and pressing, along with his creativity, reflect why he is a favourite with Jurgen Klopp and is so often called upon.
Few doubt Lallana’s natural talent and if he can, in fact, stay fit throughout the rest of 2018/19 after a difficult 2018, he will be a real asset to the Reds.
