Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has claimed the Reds would be ‘lost’ without Roberto Firmino.

The star, 27, impressed once again at the weekend, and scored in the 3-0 win over Burnley to make him the first Brazilian player in Premier League history to reach 50 goals.

Firmino is adored by the Liverpool faithful for his unrivalled on-field intelligence and work-rate, and it would appear he is held in just as high regard by his teammates.

Speaking about the South American forward, Robertson said (quoted by Liverpool Echo): “With his work-rate, his technique, his goals and his all-round play, I don’t think there’s anyone like him.

“People will say there are better strikers, but for me what he does is so important to our team. We’d be lost without him. He’s world class.

“He does everything, and that’s the beauty of Bobby. He can do it all. He’s our first line of defence, and I’ve not seen anybody better at doing that. The work he puts in during games is probably more than any other striker in the world.”

TBR’s view

Firmino’s importance to Liverpool is absolutely massive.

Robertson is spot on with his assessment – few players in Europe are as well-rounded as Firmino is.

He will probably never be considered amongst the best strikers in Europe given the underappreciated role he plays, but his selflessness and intelligence are what allow the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to continously grab the headlines.

He is perfect for the Liverpool system and must be a dream for the rest of the team to play with, particularly the full-backs who can push further up as he presses.
