Liverpool defender Andy Robertson may not be fit to face Napoli in the opening match of their Champions League campaign tonight, as per the club’s official website.
Jurgen Klopp said the Scotsman didn’t train in Italy ahead of the clash with Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with the Daily Mail reporting that James Milner may be called upon to deputise.
Klopp stated: “Robbo didn’t train today and we have to see. It is not a major thing, it was more precautionary today, but it is not 100 per cent sure [he will be available]. We will have to test it tomorrow and then we will see.”
Joe Gomez is the other most likely alternative at left back after the Reds didn’t buy a replacement for the departed Alberto Moreno this summer.

TBR’s View – Robertson’s absence would prove another test of Liverpool’s transfer strategy
A backup left back was one obvious area in which Liverpool needed to buy someone after Moreno departed, but Jurgen Klopp decided not to, with Gomez and Milner in reserve.
Milner played the role for almost a full season back in 2016/17 and is more than capable, but is also unlikely to be too thrilled about operating there for any length of time during a campaign when he is looking to earn a new contract.
Gomez is also a slightly awkward fit on the left – a rare obvious weak spot in this Reds team if he played there long-term – so they’ll be hoping Robertson is fit to play tonight. The Scot was outstanding on Saturday, to boot.
