One year on, Liverpool appear to have struck gold with the purchase of Andy Robertson.
The full-back, who has just been named the new captain of Scotland, pitched up at Anfield in the summer of 2017 following an £8 million move from relegated Hull City.
Initially Robertson struggled to get into the side as Alberto Moreno tried to nail the left-back spot down again.

But he soon came into the side and ended up making 22 league appearances for the Reds.
He quickly established himself as a firm fan favourite with the Anfield faithful.
Robertson has been notable for his fantastic work ethic and absolute commitment to the Jurgen Klopp way.
The ex-Queen’s Park youngster’s energetic displays are a complete and utter hit with the supporters, and it’s very reminiscent of a Red of yesteryear.
Robertson could become just like Dirk Kuyt
There’s something about Robertson that suggests he could become a huge success at Liverpool.
He shares similar traits to Dirk Kuyt, who represented Liverpool from 2006-2012.

Kuyt is something of a cult hero in the eyes of many Reds fans for his tireless running and willingness to give everything for the team.
The Dutchman was never the most prolific striker – though his record of 51 goals in 208 league games wasn’t terrible – but showed the heart that Liverpool fans love to see from their players.
He completely endeared himself to them and the same thing could happen with Robertson.
Robertson and Kuyt are not comparable by position, but they absolutely are by nature.

Not only is the full-back a fantastic footballer, but he has what it takes to become ‘the people’s player’.
Most neutrals have probably forgotten about Kuyt’s time on Merseyside, but never by Liverpool fans.
Robertson can absolutely take over his mantle and become the latest Anfield cult hero.
