Manchester City legend Andy Morrison says Riyad Mahrez is the best player he’s ever seen in one-on-one situations.

The 29-year-old has struggled at times for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, but he’s impressed in flashes and has claimed seven goals and three assists in all competitions.

Mahrez helped City regain their lead in Wednesday night’s 3-1 win over Everton, curling home a sensational effort from 18 yards out.

The Algeria international is well known for getting the better of opposition defenders thanks to his ability to dribble at speed and his drop of the shoulder.

And Morrison admits he loves seeing Mahrez in action when up against an opponent.

“He excites me when he gets in one on one situations,” the former City captain said on the We’re Not Really Here matchday show, via the City website.

“People will say show him onto his right foot, but he has an incredible ability to disguise his movement.

“He’s the best I’ve ever seen at actually showing you the ball to shoot and then pulling it back across.

“In and around the box, one on one when he faces you up, I think he’s the best at the club.

“We have seen it so many times. It almost looks like it’s game over when he squares you up. He drops his shoulder and bang into the top corner.”

Last season, Mahrez was one of City’s best players, one of the most creative attackers in the league.

Even though he struggled for form earlier this season due to a lack of pre-season, the £120,000-a-week ace has kicked on and has been playing his part in the team’s incredible winning run.
