Rangers have completed their third summer signing after striking a pre-contract agreement with Leicester City defender Calvin Bassey – prompting reaction from Andy King on Instagram.

Rangers have acted quickly ahead of this summer’s window despite the financial restraints of the global health crisis. A permanent deal for impressive loanee Ianis Hagi was first, before 16-year-old Charlie Lindsay agreed professional terms.

Now, the club have confirmed the pre-contract signing of 20-year-old Bassey from Leicester. Bassey has signed a four-year deal with Rangers, joining King and Joe Dodoo in making the same switch in recent years.

Bassey is a physical, pacy defender that can operate as either a left-back or as a central defender. The Gers needed a left-sided defender after releasing Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday, and confirmed the signing of Bassey on Twitter.

Rangers are expected to be busy in the summer window having already made three signings, and finishing some way behind Old Firm rivals Celtic once again. Bassey, though, is hardly expected to be first choice.

King, who joined Rangers on loan at the start of the season but saw his spell at Rangers cut short after just five appearances in all competitions, played alongside Bassey at Leicester. He reacted on Instagram to the signing, posting an exciting verdict for fans.
