Andy Hinchcliffe has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 23/2 from 17:30) that Raphinha was unplayable during the second-half of Leeds United’s win over Southampton on Tuesday, as he named the winger his man of the match.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side returned to winning ways in some style at Elland Road. Second-half goals from Patrick Bamford, Stuart Dallas and Raphinha saw them power to a 3-0 victory.
Leeds had to come through a tough first-half to secure the three points. But they were a different animal after the break – and no player made a bigger impact than the winger.
Raphinha was outrageously good against the Saints. And he got his rewards, with the 24-year-old scoring a late free-kick to put the icing on the cake for the Whites.
And moments later, Hinchcliffe shared just how impressed he had been with Raphinha as he was asked to name his man of the match.
“Raphinha in the second-half, he’s just been unplayable,” he told Sky Sports. “I didn’t think it made too much sense putting him out on the left-hand side, but I think it’s the fact that he’s up against Bednarek. He’s run him ragged, and another class performance by a brilliant player.
“Also, his work off the ball, his willingness to work for the team, that is just as amazing.”
It is almost getting to the stage where Leeds’s task of trying to keep the summer signing is getting tougher as each appearance passes.
He now has three goals and three assists in his last seven appearances for Bielsa’s men. His form is making a mockery of the fee Leeds paid for him last October.
He is certainly staking a claim for being the signing of the season in the Premier League.
