Andy Hinchcliffe hailed Everton defender Lucas Digne as “stupendous” after his performance on Wednesday night against Lincoln City.
The Toffees produced an exciting attacking performance to win 4-2 away at the League One club in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Marco Silva’s team flexed their muscles in front of goal for the first real time this season and demonstrated they do have attacking firepower in their ranks.
After visitors Lincoln took the lead in the opening minute through Harry Anderson, the Merseyside club hit back thanks to Digne’s free-kick from distance that flew into the top corner.
Gylfi Sigurdsson’s penalty then gave Everton a 2-1 lead, but their gritty opponents levelled in the 70th minute with a volley from Bruno Andrade.
The Premier League team went on to secure a memorable cup win with goals from Alex Iwobi and Richarlison late on, with Digne providing an inch-perfect cross to assist the latter.
Ex-Everton defender and now Sky Sports pundit Hinchcliffe singled out Digne for his excellent display in mid-week.
He feels he was a class above everyone on the pitch and was left in awe of his long-range free-kick.
“Digne absolutely man of the match he was stupendous. The technique that he used [on his free-kick] you get the power but you get the accuracy. There is no chance for a goalkeeper to get across and save that, the technique is absolutely top drawer,” he said on Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (10:00pm, 28 August).

TBR’s View:
With one goal and one assist under his belt, it was certainly a positive night for Everton defender Digne and he’s turned into a serious fan favourite.
The 26-year-old left-back has turned into such a vital attacking player for the Toffees and looks a danger every time he goes forward.
He’s certainly one of the standout players in Silva’s group and there aren’t many better full-backs in the Premier League at present.
It looked like the successor to Leighton Baines would have a nightmare task at Goodison Park, but Digne has had no issue and continues going from strength to strength.
