Andy Halliday praises one Celtic player’s performance on Sunday, despite defeat

Andy Halliday has sung the praises of Celtic playmaker Tom Rogic’s performance against Ross County on Open Goal – despite the Scottish champions suffering a 2-0 defeat and losing a cup game for the first time in four years.

The defeat, which sees Celtic having lost their last four home games and just two in their previous 10 games in all competitions, is also the first time Celtic have been knocked out of a cup competition in four years.

Twin that with 11 points off leaders Rangers in the league and an early Europa League exit, the pressure is on Celtic and certainly Neil Lennon. But in the midst of that, 27-year-old Rogic has come back into the fray.

The Australia international has three assists in his last three Scottish Premiership appearances and while he could not add to that tally against Ross County, Halliday was impressed with his performance despite the loss.

“I’m not saying he was brilliant, Celtic fans might think he was rubbish – but Tom Rogic looks as if he is still trying to unlock the door and make things happen. Arguably created Celtic’s two best chances,” Halliday said.

TBR’s view – Can Rogic save Celtic?

Certainly, the Hoops need creativity to get the best out of under-fire strikers Albian Ajeti and Odsonne Edouard. They need players that can create something out of nothing in order to get those two strikers back firing.

Get Edouard back to his best and allow Ajeti to boost his confidence would give Celtic a much better chance of winning games – but they need chances to do that, and therefore creativity. Rogic can provide that.
