Andy Halliday names the ‘unbelievable’ player Celtic are reportedly trying to re-sign

Former Rangers man Andy Halliday has admitted that Fraser Forster was “unbelievable” for Celtic against the Ibrox side in the Scottish League Cup final last year (Open Goal).

Steven Gerrard’s charges took on their Glasgow rivals at Hampden Park for the right to lift the first major trophy of the Scottish season last December.

Rangers laid siege to the Celtic defence, with 16 shots, seven on target and even a missed penalty, while Neil Lennon’s side played the final third of the game with ten men.

The Hoops, meanwhile, had just one effort on target – and it yielded the only goal of the game.

Forster put in a masterclass in between the sticks for Celtic, making save upon save including from Alfredo Morelos’ penalty.

Halliday has acknowledged just how good the Southampton loanee was on the day.

“On that day, just nothing went for us. It’s probably one of the most one sided Old Firm games I’ve played in in terms of Rangers’ favour,” Halliday told Open Goal.

“Just nothing went for us. Fraser Forster was just unbelievable on the day.”

It’s almost baffling to think Forster was frozen out at Southampton for so long, considering just how well he has done back at Celtic, and the final against Rangers was far from his only masterclass in 2019-20.

Celtic have been heavily linked with bringing the 6ft 7in giant back to Parkhead but another deal seems unlikely to happen, with Forster reportedly wanting a permanent move but Saints playing hardball over his signature (The Scottish Sun).
