Andy Halliday makes big claim about Rangers star Ryan Kent after Sunday display

Andy Halliday has told Open Goal that Rangers attacker Ryan Kent could become the Ibrox club’s best player over the past two decades, after his sparkling performance for the Gers on Sunday helped beat Old Firm rivals Celtic 4-1.

Rangers inched closer to completing an unbeaten season in Steven Gerrard’s third term in charge, with two more matches to play in the league. Kemar Roofe got a brace, while Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe also got their names on the score sheet.

Kent, 24, was the star of the show. He completely rinsed the Celtic midfield, time after time – taking advantage of Celtic going down to 10 men after Callum McGregor’s red card. In what was his 50th game of the season, Kent has had a hand in 26 goals.

Rangers fan Halliday, who has just won promotion with Hearts, has claimed that Kent could become Rangers best player over the last two decades after he took Celtic apart on Sunday. He believes that Kent was the “best player by a mile” on Sunday.

“He’s unbelievable. In terms of technical ability and potential, I think he is the best player Rangers have had in over two decades – I think he can be that good,” Halliday said, during Open Goal’s Keeping The Ball On The Ground.

“He is becoming consistent, getting goals and assists but he’s just next level. Watching him is actually a joy. In the Old Firm games he has been sensational and on Sunday he was the best player by a mile.”

TBR’s view – How much is Kent worth?

A Daily Star report claims that Kent is rated at £18million amid interest from Premier League side Liverpool, but even if Rangers received such a figure for the ex-Liverpool man – could they really replace him with that money? Probably not.

Kent is a top, top player. He gets what it means to be Rangers, he understands the passion of the Old Firm rivalry. He changes games at the biggest level – whether that is in Europe or against Celtic. £18million is fair, but to Rangers he is worth more.
