Andy Halliday makes admission after Rangers defeat

Andy Halliday has apologised for Rangers’s recent run of form and admitted that a number of Gers players should fear for their Ibrox futures, in comments reported by Sky Sports.

Steven Gerrard’s men have left themselves with more than a mountain to climb in the Scottish Premiership title race after being beaten 1-0 by Hamilton at home on Wednesday.

And after being knocked out of the Scottish Cup last weekend, the Ibrox faithful would be forgiven for feeling that getting as far as possible in the Europa League is all that is left to play for this season.

The defeat to Accies looks to be a lot more costly than the one additional point standing between Rangers and the league leaders.

And that has prompted Halliday to offer an apology to the supporters. He also made an admission regarding the players’ futures at the club.

“Everyone should be fearing for their future, it’s as simple as that,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports.

“At a big club you’re judged on results and the performances you put in on a week-to-week basis.”

“I can’t put my finger on what has gone wrong. All I can do, and I know it’s empty words, is on behalf of all the players offer our complete and sincere apologies,” he went on to add.

“The performances since the winter break have been absolutely miles off it and we can’t put our finger on it.”

TBR View – Halliday doesn’t owe apology

In fairness to Halliday, he is arguably one of the players within the squad who really does not need to apologise.

He has barely featured for the Gers in recent times. And when he has been involved during Gerrard’s time in charge, he has rarely let the side down.

Halliday set an example when he played on after picking up a nasty looking injury against Livingston last month.

Wednesday’s defeat may not have been down to a lack of effort or desire. But Gerrard’s men know that they now need to show more.
