Andy Gray comments on reported Everton interest in Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard

Andy Gray has told BeIN Sports’ Keys & Gray show that Everton can do a lot better than raiding Manchester United for England international Jesse Lingard this summer, claiming he is “not for me”.

Lingard, 27, is likely to be pushed towards the exit door at Old Trafford this season with his contract set to expire at the end of the 2020-21 campaign. The United academy product has failed to score a Premier League goal since December 2018.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Everton have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Lingard this summer. It is believed that United may ask for as much as £30million for Lingard, who is earning a whopping £110,000 a week as per the Mail.

Everton icon Gray was told that The Toffees were being linked with a move for the Manchester United midfielder, and the BeIN Sports pundit responded nonchalantly – stating that he does not want Lingard in an Everton shirt.

“I can think of many better players I would rather see in an Everton shirt. With respect. Not for me, not my favourite. No,” Gray said, when asked about a move for Lingard.

TBR’s view – Why would Everton go anywhere near Lingard?

Everton have become synonymous with signing out-of-favour players from some of the Premier League’s biggest sides. Morgan Schneiderlin has joined from Manchester United, while Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi have joined from Arsenal.

Similarly, Fabian Delph joined from Manchester City last summer but none of those four players have impressed at Everton. Signing Lingard would surely be just another example of that.
