Andy Gray comments on Newcastle’s reported interest in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos

Andy Gray has told BeIN Sports Keys & Gray Show on Tuesday that he believes Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos would be an excellent signing for Newcastle United this summer – especially at a reportted cut-price fee of £13million.

Goal have claimed that Newcastle United are one of eight sides interested in signing 23-year-old Morelos, who has starred once again for Rangers – scoring 29 goals throughout the 2019-20 campaign, and laying on 10 assists.

The report also claims that Inter Milan, Valencia, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Aston Villa, Leicester City and Crystal Palace are all keen on the Colombia international, and he could now be available for as cheap an option of just £13million.

With Newcastle likely to be after a striker in the summer, Gray commented on the Toon signing Morelos from Steven Gerrard’s side and the Ibrox icon reckons the hothead would be a top signing for Steve Bruce’s side this summer.

“That is good business”, Gray said. “If Morelos can take his form and put it in the Premier League, Newcastle get themselves a great player. But you know what, Steven Gerrard has done a brilliant job with him this season. Really fantastic.”

TBR’s view – Morelos not just a goalscorer, perfect for Newcastle

Newcastle need a striker that can score goals from nothing and Morelos has proved he is more than capable of that in both Scotland, and in the Europa League. Scoring against the likes of Porto and Feyenoord proves he is more than capable.

But it is his ability to create which is just as important. As aforementioned, his 10 assists this season have been crucial to Rangers, as has his hold-up play. In Newcastle’s side, he would bring the best out of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.
