Andy Couzens has urged Vurnon Anita and other Leeds outcasts to leave

Andy Couzens has told Football League World that Vurnon Anita and other Leeds United outcasts have got to leave Elland Road this summer, if an offer comes in for the players.

Anita has been linked with a move to Greek side Panathinaikos, while the former Newcastle star could also move to the MLS or return to his home country of Holland – after a loan spell with Willem II during 2018-19. His contract ends in June 2020.

Leeds have a number of players that joined the club with the promise of first-team football, but have fallen down the pecking order. The likes of Pawel Cibicki, Eunan O’Kane, Ouasim Buoy and Laurens De Bock are all on the sidelines.

Former Leeds midfielder Couzens has claimed that these players have got to leave the club this summer, if an offer that is suitable for both player and club is received. He also stated that if they stay, it could have a negative impact on the squad.

“Yes, I would imagine so,” Couzens said, when asked if players will leave. “I don’t know why a player would want to stick around if you’re not playing and you’ve got a chance of a move.

“Anita might be a little bit different, he might want to stay in the country, so that obviously can’t happen. If you want to play football and an offer comes in then I can’t see why they wouldn’t move.

“If you have got two or three people who aren’t involved then there is a little bit of a negative that comes from that.”

TBR’s view – Anita, De Bock, O’Kane, Cibicki, Buoy, any more?

The quartet are expected to leave Elland Road and it would be a big surprise if any of those names are still on the Leeds books come September 2. To comply with Financial Fairplay, Leeds will want them off the wage bill.

But are there any more players that should be considering an exit? Conor Shaughnessy is one, and has been linked with a move to both Bolton and Burton. he has managed just one appearance since Marcelo Bielsa took over.

The signing of Illan Meslier on loan has pushed Will Huffer to fourth-choice goalkeeper. The England youth international is in his final 12 months, and should also pursue a move away.
