Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend believes that Tottenham’s Harry Kane is underrated, stating he’d even put him ahead of Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema in terms of being the best the striker in the world.

Kane has started the season on absolute fire for Spurs, scoring 13 goals and supplying 10 assists in just 14 games across all competitions.

The England captain has linked up with the national side for the two-break and some would argue he’s playing his best ever football right now, as he appears to be at the heart of everything for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich forward Lewandowski has 13 goals in 11 games this campaign and Real Madrid counterpart Benzema has six goals in 11 matches.

Townsend, who previously played at Spurs with Kane, has claimed his ex-teammate deserves to be considered the world’s elite forward:

“For me, he is the best striker in world football bar none. We spoke before about underrated players. I think he is very underappreciated. People love to speak about Lewandowski & Benzema but if those guys came to the Premier League they would not be hitting the numbers that Harry Kane has been hitting on a consistent basis,” Townsend told talkSPORT.

“Every single time he goes into training he’s thinking about breaking that all-time [Premier League[ goalcoring record because that’s what Harry Kane is like. He is very determined, he is very focused and if he sets his mind to something eventually he will get it

TBR’s View:

Kane 100 per cent deserves to be in the conversation for the world’s leading marksman right now, but Bayern powerhouse Lewandowski has the edge at present.

Kane is being tipped to go close to breaking Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record, as he’s already at the 150 mark and the record tally is 260 goals.

The prolific centre-forward appears to be hitting his very peak working under Portuguese boss Mourinho, which is quite interesting when many consider to be a conservative manager more focused on defending.
