Andros Townsend comments on new stadium, Tottenham fans react

Andros Townsend has given his verdict of Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium on Twitter after failing to help his Crystal Palace side from losing 2-0 last Wednesday – and Spurs fans have reacted by urging his return.

The 27-year-old came on for the last 11 minutes of Palace’s defeat to Spurs, as Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen scored second-half goals to end the north Londoners’ run of five matches without a win.

The new 62,062-capacity stadium has attracted interest from fans of all English clubs in recent days, after the Spurs began life at the new ground with the 2-0 win. The complex is believed to have cost the best part of £1billion.

Former Spurs winger Townsend, who came through the ranks at Spurs and was on the books of the senior team between 2009 and 2016, posted on Twitter about the new ground.

Spurs finally sold Townsend in January 2016 to Newcastle for £12million (BBC). He played 93 times for Spurs, but went on loan 10 times including spells at Leeds, Yeovil Town, QPR, Birmingham City and Millwall.

Tottenham fans reacted to Townsend’s Tweet, which shows the England international still hold Spurs in a special place in his heart. Some fans urged the ex-Newcastle man to return to Spurs, who cost Palace £13million in 2016 (Sky).
