Patrick Bamford took his goal involvements to 20 for the season on Friday as Leeds United narrowly beat Fulham to end their three-year wait for a win in London – and both Andros Townsend and Steve Sidwell have discussed his future on Optus Sport.
Bamford, 27, reacted in the perfect way to being overlooked for an England call-up – Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins has been preferred by Gareth Southgate – by scoring one and creating another as Leeds beat Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Flicking the ball past Alphonse Areola at the near post gave Leeds the lead, and was Bamford’s 14th goal of the season – before he played in Raphinha who finished superbly under pressure. He now has 14 for the season, and six assists.
Despite his form, Bamford is out of contract in the summer of 2022 and while there has been no reports regarding any doubt over his future at Leeds – Townsend and Sidwell were asked after the match about a potential move.

Sidwell: “He brings work rate and goals combined – he is any managers dream. Who knows what levels he can go to. He’s got great people around him and his feet on the ground, but he’s got the all the assets to go on and do well.”
Townsend: “I don’t think he will want to go anywhere. He’s been and done the rounds. He’s settled down and finally got the manager who appreciates his game and gets the best out of him. If clubs do come calling, I don’t think it would faze him one bit.”
TBR’s view – Do Leeds need to be concerned?
While they do not need to worry particularly about Bamford being tempted with a move, or in fact any clubs coming in for the uncapped Englishman – they do need to sort out his contract situation before the summer window to remove any doubt.
The closer we get to the summer, talk is only going to increase when it is realised that Bamford is about to enter the last 12 months of his contract. Getting the deal done is a no-brainer, and a decision that needs to be made as soon as possible.
