Andrew Robertson has claimed that he would happily sign a contract that would ensure that he finishes his playing career at Liverpool, but also admitted that he would be open to signing for Celtic at some stage in the future, in comments reported by the Evening Times.

Robertson has established himself as one of the world’s very best full-backs. He is now a Champions League and Premier League winner with the Reds.

It remains remarkable to think that he had just finished playing in Scotland’s fourth tier this time seven years ago.

But his achievements are perhaps even more remarkable when you consider that he was released by the Hoops 11 years ago as a 15-year-old.

Robertson however, has hinted that he would be open to returning to Parkhead in the future – although it appears that he hopes to spend the remaining years of his career on Merseyside.

“I’ve found my home at Liverpool and I love playing for this club. If I could retire at Liverpool then I’d bite your hand off for it now. In an ideal world I’d want to retire here,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“Playing at this club is amazing. To play in front of the fans every second week at Anfield is incredible.

“When I was younger I wanted to play for Celtic and give my best years to Celtic. I didn’t want to be hanging on and going there at 33 or 34 when I knew my best years were gone.

“It might be something I’ll need to think about at some stage. I still follow Celtic and they still have a place in my heart.”

It does look difficult to imagine Robertson returning to Celtic anytime soon. He appears to still have plenty to achieve at Liverpool.

But his comments stand the Hoops in good stead should his future become a talking point.

Having achieved so much at Liverpool, it is surely going to be tough for another English club to tempt him to snub his boyhood side.
