Andrea Berta could regret not signing £33m star for Arsenal who’s even more creative than Florian Wirtz

With Florian Wirtz edging closer to a move to Liverpool, Arsenal supporters have every reason to be concerned as such a superstar signing could further weaken their chances of winning the Premier League title next season.

Jeremie Frimpong is a Liverpool player already and it does not seem like the Reds are prepared whatsoever to relinquish their stranglehold as the champions of England.

Arsenal have opened talks to sign Benjamin Sesko and it is clear to see that the Gunners are ready to do what it takes to finally win the league title for the first time since 2004 in the following campaign.

However, Florian Wirtz could potentially end up being the difference between both sides in the title race — as was perhaps Erling Haaland when he led Manchester City to domestic glory over Arsenal in his debut season.

Arsenal could rue missing out on Rayan Cherki

Rayan Cherki was a player who was on Arsenal’s radar and the Frenchman could well have been the bona fide match-winner in the final third Mikel Arteta’s side have been crying out for apart from Bukayo Saka for years.

However, Cherki could join Manchester City or perhaps even Manchester United as both clubs are leading the race to sign him in the summer.

Arsenal scouted Cherki but as the Lyon midfielder seems set to play for either of the Manchester clubs next season, they could regret missing out on the 21-year-old’s signature as he could have been their answer to Wirtz.

The youngster is an outstanding creator, providing 20 assists in all competitions for his boyhood club last season; a profile of player Arsenal sorely miss as apart from Saka (14), no player in their squad even reached double figures for assists.

With Arsenal eyeing Viktor Gyokeres as well as Sesko, Cherki would have been a dream for either of them to play alongside as his eye for a pass is phenomenal.

Considering Mikel Arteta’s side scored the fourth least goals (69) out of any team in the league’s top six last season as well, the French U-21 international’s incredible final ball, exquisite dribbling and trickery would have made them a far more dynamic outfit in the final third.

With Cherki being available for just €40 million (£33 million) according to journalist Santi Aouna, who is also two-footed and can seemingly create from any angle on the pitch, he would have been a potential upgrade on Martin Odegaard, who has struggled for form.

But with another extraordinary attacking midfielder like Wirtz set to join Liverpool soon, the North Londoners may have left themselves devoid of too much creative spark ahead of next season where all eyes will be on them to win the title in particular.

Rayan Cherki compared to Florian Wirtz last season

Furthermore, if Manchester City get their hands on the highly-rated technician alongside the likes of Tijjani Reijnders to name a few, they could potentially leapfrog Arsenal as well.

Last season, City just finished three points behind Arsenal despite enduring their worst season under Pep Guardiola since his debut campaign.

However, there seems to be a burning desire at the Etihad Stadium to return to the summit of English football sooner rather than later.

When looking at Cherki’s stats from last season in comparison to Wirtz, it is easy to see why Arsenal could regret not signing him.

In terms of goal contributions, Cherki has the edge on Wirtz (32 as compared to 31) despite starting two fewer games and playing for an inferior Lyon side.

Having provided five more assists than the German (20) as well, Cherki, who could move to the Premier League has been more creative than a player who is widely considered as one of the best in the world.
