Andre Villas-Boas has no interest in Newcastle United job

Andre Villas-Boas recently emerged as the latest big-name manager to be linked with the Newcastle United job.

As reported by Foot Mercato, the Magpies added the Portuguese to a growing list of potential candidates to take over from Steve Bruce once a Saudi-backed takeover is completed at St James’ Park.

He joins the like of Mauricio Pochettino, Lucien Favre, Rafa Benitez, and Max Allegri in being linked with taking over from Bruce on Tyneside.

However, even if Newcastle United are keen, the man himself is not.

Speaking to RMC Sport this week, the Marseille boss made it clear that he was happy at the French side, who he led to a second-place finish this season.

He also made it clear that he has no intention of returning to the Premier League anytime soon.

“I’m doing very well in Marseille. I don’t want to look for other clubs or options. When my agent calls me with things that I have already known, that is to say the Premier League, I have no interest.

“I don’t want to go back to the Premier League. I have already done it. I want to do something else. It was not the championship that was the happiest for me. I spent a wonderful year at Tottenham, where we finished with the (club’s Premier League) point record. But my half-season at Chelsea and the one that followed at Tottenham have not been successful. So I want to keep doing other things because I still have plans for my career. Anyway, I’m very happy in Marseille.”

AVB’s two previous stints in England both ended poorly, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur both giving him the boot. That was despite a very impressive first season with Spurs.

Now it seems the Marseille boss has simply had enough of England as a management destination and is more likely to continue in France. As reported by France Football, the Portuguese is currently earning around €138,000-a-week (£120k-a-week), so is already on an excellent salary with Les Phoceens.

The general consensus from Newcastle fans was that Villas-Boas was not the man to lead the club into their new era, so not many will be overly disappointed with this news.

However, Marseille will be pleased that the Portuguese is set to stick around after his impressive first campaign at the Stade Velodrome.
