Arsenal have reportedly joined Manchester United and a whole host of other Premier League clubs in the race for Marseille wonderkid Boubacar Kamara – and his manager Andre Villas-Boas has compared him to a current Gunners star.
The Daily Express claimed earlier this month that Manchester City, West Ham United and Chelsea were all interested in raiding Marseille for the 20-year-old star, who has already clocked up 79 appearances for Marseille’s senior side.
A France Under-21 international, Kamara is believed to be rated at £28million. Now, French outlet Foot Mercato have claimed that Arsenal and Manchester United are also interested in luring Kamara to the Premier League.
Certainly, Kamara is a top talent. Naturally a centre-back, this season has seen Kamara step into the holding midfield role and make such a position his own – leading to Villas-Boas comparing him with David Luiz, and PSG ace Marquinhos in March.

“David Luiz or Marquinhos are able to play without problems in both positions [centre-back and holding midfield],” Villas-Boas was quoted as saying by Foot Marseille. ” With two others in the middle, he has a little more freedom, he begins to climb.
“I was not the first to put him in this position, but what has changed is that he also wants to play in this position. His performances were very good and that has allowed me to keep him in the middle.”
TBR’s view – Arsenal fans will be hoping he is a lot better than Luiz
The Brazilian has certainly struggled this season, since his move from Chelsea. But Villas-Boas’ comparison does not come in terms of quality – but rather that both players can play at centre-back and in the defensive midfield role.
Indeed, Villas-Boas is right. What makes Kamara a potentially top signing for Arsenal, is that The Gunners need both a centre-back and cover in the middle of the park. At such a bargain price, and his age, Kamara would be a top signing.
