Andre Onana’s incredible save shows why Tottenham Hotspur view him as Hugo Lloris replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are getting to the point where they need to start thinking about the future of their goalkeeping position. Hugo Lloris is into his 30’s and has recently shown a penchant for the odd howler.

With Michel Vorm no spring chicken in reserve and Paulo Gazzaniga considered a long-term back-up, a move for a new stopper seems likely before long.

According to Dutch source Voetbal International, Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has been earmarked as the man to take Lloris’ place.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is said to be a big fan of the player. The Cameroon international certainly showed why he is being considered last night.

Ajax drew 3-3 with Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night. If it was not for Onana, Ajax would have lost. Robert Lewandowski may have scored twice, but he had two efforts prevented by incredible goalkeeping by the 22-year-old.

His first, a block with the feet, had shades of Alisson’s recent stop. His second was far and away a better save than that. Lewandowski headed a cross back across the sprawling keeper. However, Onana showcased incredible mid-air agility to touch the ball over with his left hand.

It was fine goalkeeping from the player, who might be moving into pole position to become Tottenham’s next goalkeeping option.

Add to that his ability with the ball at his feet, and Tottenham Hotspur are right to consider him the future once Lloris’ time has come.
