Tottenham Hotspur’s youngsters took on Portsmouth in the EFL Trophy last night. There was plenty of reason for Tottenham fans to take notice. Not only because of their current youngsters but because of two former players who featured for Pompey. Both Luke McGee and Anton Walkes featured in the game for the League One leaders.
In fact, there was even a former Tottenham target on show. Andre Green is currently on loan at Portsmouth from Aston Villa. The 20-year-old has struggled to get off the ground at Fratton Park. After just two appearances he had to undergo minor knee surgery and last night was his comeback match.

Green certainly showed what he can do. Green scored Portsmouth’s first goal in the 3-2 win. He came off after an hour, to ease him back after injury. But Tottenham likely saw exactly why they were interested in signing the player at the start of the year.
As reported by The Sun in January, Tottenham and Bournemouth were both looking to sign the player. The report claimed Tottenham have had him on their radar for two years. Spurs even tried to sign him on a deal at 17-years-old.
Green started this season in Aston Villa’s first-team. However, Steve Bruce loaned him out after signing Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie, despite many fans wanting to see him get a regular chance in the first-team at Villa Park.
If he can continue this form and stay fit at Portsmouth, Tottenham might be right to reconsider him as an option for the future.
