Andre Gomes picks perfect time to have first bad Everton game
Everton have been thrashed by Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park this afternoon. Spurs ran rampant in a 6-2 victory on Merseyside which put Spurs firmly in the title race.
It was not, however, the best of displays from Andre Gomes in an Everton shirt. The Portugal international has been brilliant for Everton this season. Since joining on loan from Barcelona he has developed a fine reputation among the Goodison Park fanbase.
However, without his usual sidekick Idrissa Gana Gueye beside him he struggled to influence the fixture.
He was at fault for Dele Alli’s goal in the first-half, after completely neglecting to track his run into the box and his game came to an abrupt end with an injury in the second-half.
But a poor display from Gomes could not have come against a better side from an Everton perspective.
Everton still know, despite this performance, what Gomes brings. However, recent reports have suggested that Tottenham are also keen. Seen as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele, The Sun recently reported Tottenham were keeping tabs on the player.
However, his inability to track back and injury record are undoubtedly issues Tottenham would have reservations over. Seeing both factors be key in the flesh might put Tottenham off.
Everton, meanwhile, would still happily take him on with his imperfections.
