Andre Gomes oozes class for Everton to show why a permanent deal must be their priority

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes produced a dominant performance in the Premier League on Saturday to show exactly why he is in-demand.

Gomes played magnificently against West Ham to inspire Everton to a 2-0 victory at The London Stadium. The Toffees leapfrogged West Ham into the top half with that win.

The 29-cap Portugal international is currently on loan from Barcelona but he needs to be Everton’s number one priority in the summer.

Gomes put on an exhibition of football in midfield, recovering the ball well and picking his passes with ease.

He made his opposite number Pedro Obiang look out of his depth at this level and showed why Barcelona signed him in 2016.

Barcelona would part ways with the 25-year-old on a permanent deal if Everton cough up enough money and this has to be their number one target.

Gomes has the ability to win games on his own and he continues to get better as he adjusts to life in the Premier League.

Everton are likely to face competition for Gomes; his top class performances will not be going unnoticed.

But Everton have the incumbency advantage; Gomes knows the club well and seems settled in Marco Silva’s midfield.

Everton need to show ambition to push further up the league table next season and Gomes would be the ideal place to start their summer spending.
