Former Tottenham manager and current PSG coach, Mauricio Pochettino, has been compared to Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa by Spanish midfielder, Ander Herrera.

The former Manchester United man is now playing under the guidance of Pochettino with PSG. Herrera, 31, played under Bielsa while he was with Atletico Bilbao, and believes that his new boss at PSG has similarities to the Leeds coach.

Speaking to EFE, via PSG Talk, Herrera believes that the ‘passionate’ pair are very similar in their ‘demanding’ style.

“Mauricio changed the history of Tottenham,” Herrera said.

“He is a coach who wants possession for 90 minutes; he reminds me of Marcelo Bielsa, suffer when the opponent has the ball. That is physically demanding. He is a very passionate coach, he is Argentine and we all know how Argentines are with football.”

Herrera has been plying his trade over in France after being at Manchester United. Pochettino only arrived at the club in January, but is already making a big impression on proceedings it seems.

Pochettino is best known for his work in England with Southampton and Spurs. Bielsa, meanwhile, is world-renowned for his methods and is currently impressing with Leeds in the top-flight.

TBR View: Quite the compliment for both Pochettino and Bielsea

The Leeds boss isn’t in the game to get nice comparisons and comments from people. However, it’s still a nice observation for Herrera to make and shows how impressed he has been with Pochettino as well.

Both managers are great in their own right, in fairness. Bielsa’s brilliance has rubbed off on everyone in England, while Pochettino is still regarded as one of the better younger coaches around.

Hopefully, Poch can deliver the goods for PSG and enjoy a long career just like Bielsa has.
