But with the season drawing to a close, TBR takes a look at an XI of former Premier League players who are out of contract this summer.

Kicking off the former Premier League players who are out of contract this summer is a South American goalkeeper.

After four years in Serie A with Napoli, the Colombian international’s contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is drawing to a close.

The 33-year-old, who won the 2020 Italian Cup with the Naples side, has made over 100 appearances for I Ciucci.

The former Arsenal man played 29 times in the Premier League for the Gunners, during his time in England, after being signed by Ligue 1 side Nice.

The 29-year-old’s six-year stay with Monaco could come to an end this summer and the France international, who played one match in the 2018 World Cup triumph, made 26 appearances for the Stade Louis II side this season.

Part of the Monaco side that reached the Champions League semi-finals and won Ligue 1 in 2016-17, Sidibe spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Everton where he made 28 appearances.

The former Manchester City, Celtic and Sunderland man could move back to England following four years in Ligue 1 with Lyon.

Denayer will be wanting to secure first-team football ahead of this winter’s World Cup with Belgium under Roberto Martinez.

The 26-year-old made 139 appearances for Lyon and was part of the side that beat Pep Guardiola’s Citizens en-route to reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2020.

The former Newcastle United centre-back has spent four years with Portuguese giants Porto and he has won five trophies, including two league titles.

The 27-year-old DR Congo international has played over 130 games for the Dragons and has become accustomed to playing in Europe’s top club competitions during his time in Portugal.

Of the former Premier League players who are out of contract this summer – Mbemba is probably one that is likely to go under the radar.

The 36-year-old is certainly in the twilight stages of his career, but with his three-year stay at Real Sociedad coming to an end, the left-back is on the lookout for another club.

Monreal had six-and-a-half years at Arsenal, made over 250 appearances and won three FA Cups.

Cesc Fabregas

What a career the former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea man has had, but he has endured a difficult season in Monaco.

One of the most iconic midfielders in footballing history hasn’t played a first team game since September, but he isn’t ready to call time on his career yet.

Fabregas, at the age of 35, may not cover the grass as quick as he did 15 years ago, but his ability to dictate the tempo of the game and create chances out of nothing remains a huge strength.

If former Premier League players who are out of contract this summer were returning in their prime – clubs would be queuing up to sign Fabregas.

A central midfield pairing of Wilshere and Fabregas, and every football fan thinks of the duo going toe-to-toe with Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta eleven years ago.

It’s such a shame that Wilshere’s career has been plagued with injuries because he was an incredible talent.

The 30-year-old’s short-term contract in Denmark with Aarhus GF expires next month although the Danish side do have the option of extending.

Adnan Januzaj

The former Manchester United wonderkid who was dubbed to become a superstar will leave Real Sociedad as a free agent.

The Belgian teenager burst onto the scene in 2013 by scoring twice in his first Premier League start for United at the age of just 18 against Sunderland, under David Moyes.

The 27-year-old could reunite with Moyes at West Ham and Calciomercato reported in December that the Hammers were looking towards Januzaj as a potential signing.

Following his experience in Manchester, there is absolutely no chance the Argentine will return to England with his trophy-filled seven-year stay at Paris Saint Germain coming to an end.

Having played in France, England and Spain, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the 34-year-old play in Italy before finishing his career back in South America.

The Armenian has featured regularly under Jose Mourinho this season after the pair were reunited when the Portuguese became Roma’s manager.

The duo will be hoping to win their second European trophy together and back up the 2017 Europa League success with victory in the Conference League final.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal attacking midfielder’s time in the Eternal City looks to be coming an end and he’ll be hoping to bow out with a trophy.

Gareth Bale

Of the former Premier League players who are out of contract this summer, Bale is arguably the biggest name.

Bale’s time in the Spanish capital has fizzled out and his next career move is likely to hinge on whether Wales qualify for the World Cup.

If the Dragons reach the tournament known as the ‘festival of football’ then the 32-year-old will likely extend his playing career.

TBR has taken a look at five Premier League clubs that could sign Gareth Bale as a free agent.
